Eurasian Economic Union expects to sign free trade deal with Iran this year
Sputnik News- A temporary agreement on establishing a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran may be signed in 2017, Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Board Tigran Sargsyan said Monday.

The negotiations betweenthe Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran ona temporary free trade zone agreement areexpected tobe finished bythe next EAEU summit, scheduled forOctober 11.
"The decision has been taken tospeed upthe work tosign the agreement withIran. We expect the document tobe signed in2017," Sargsyan told reporters followinga meeting ofthe Eurasian Intergovernmental Council inAstana.


In June, the EEC, withis the bloc's main executive body, said that the EAEU and Iran had finished working onthe text ofthe temporary free trade zone agreement and that the sides will continue talks onliberalizing mutual market access and coordinating tariff obligations inthe nearfuture.

Earlier, the Iranian ambassador toRussia said that the country isinterested ineconomic projectsofthe Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, the EAEU and the Chinese Silk Road.

In 2016,Russia and Iran agreedtopay forbilateral supplies ofproducts innational currencies, stepping upeconomic cooperation.

The EAEU, comprising Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, is an international organization that encourages regional economic integration throughthe free movement ofgoods, services, and people withinthe union.
