'Fighting in Gulf of Aden': New game shows Iran's navy crushing pirates



Sputnik - A computer game just unveiled by Irans Amytis Entertainment Company is about the Iranian Navy fighting modern-day buccaneers in the pirate-infested Gulf of Aden. In an interview with Sputnik Persian, the games creator Shahin Sayad Haghighi spoke about its storyline and its chances of being sold worldwide.




Fighting inthe Gulf ofAden. 10 Degree Latitude is based onthe real-time events ofthe Iranian Navys 2011-2012 crackdown onSomali pirates the Arabian Sea.

The original Fighting inthe Gulf ofAden was released in2012 and became become an immediate top seller inIran.

The Somali pirates attack merchant ships inthe Gulf ofAden and commandeer several ofthem. One stormy night the pirates seize an Iranian merchantman and an oil tanker killing or taking prisoner their passengers and crews. This is when the Iranian Navy kicks inand goes afterAremahi, the pirates ring leader. The Iranians engage the buccaneers ina battle tosave the hostages and the ships, Shahin Sayad Haghighi explained.

The game has it all: ship escorts, races onspeedboats, storming the pirates hideout and Aremahis eventual elimination, he continued.

Ordered bythe Iranian Navy, Fighting inthe Gulf ofAden. 10 Degree Latitude looks very real because Iranian warships actually maintain a presence inthe Gulf ofAden escorting ships and preventing them frombeing attacked and ransacked bypirates.

The new version ofthe game looks atthe events froma different angle and its creators hope that it will be fun toplay forthose who liked the original version.

The new version ofthe 2012 game was created using the powerful Unity 3 engine and offers professional graphics and sound.
