Iran calls for broadening of ties with Moldova

FNA- Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri in a message on Sunday to Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip underlined the need for broadening of mutual cooperation between the two countries.

"I hope that we will witness expansion of all-out relations between Tehran and Chisinau in the near future," Jahangiri said in his message.

The Iranian vice president also wished success and prosperity for the Moldovan nation and government.

In a relevant development in February, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with his Moldovan counterpart Igor Dodon called for enhancing mutual cooperation.

"We should make use of all opportunities and capacities to expand all-out Tehran-Chisinau ties, Rouhani said, adding that Iran was among the first countries to recognize Moldovas independence.

On 27 August 1991, as part of the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Moldavian SSR declared independence and took the name Moldova.
