Early reports by agencies, citing Iraq's interior ministry, suggested that at least 50 people were killed and 80 more injured in the attack by Daesh terrorists.

The high number of casualties was caused after terrorists opened fire on the people dinning at a restaurant in Nasiriyah the provincial capital city of Dhi Qar, before detonating a car bomb at a checkpoint near the same restaurant.

According to Iraqi medical sources, many of the people wounded in the twin attacks, are in critical conditions. The number of casualties expected to rise, they said. The three Iranians killed in the terrorist attack are yet to be identified.
