Border security common need of Iran, Iraq: IRGC comdr

IRNA - Commander of the Ground Force of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) pointed to safeguarding borders as a common need for Iran and Iraq.


Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour made the remarks Monday on the sidelines of Iran-Iraq joint drill.

He pointed to the ongoing military drill as aiming to safeguard common borders.

Holding sustainable security while the Zionist regime is trying to destabilize the region to follow its sinister targets is of importance, Brigadier General Pakpour added.

The commander said that Iran and Iraq sharing the same enemies think of safeguarding borderlines as a permanent need.

He pointed to the presence of armored units, artillery, infantries, and also UAVs and helicopters in the joint drill, and said Iranian and Iraqi Armed Forces have always stressed on the security of borders.

Brigadier General Pakpour went on to say that Iran has the same stance concerning the borders which is considering the interests of the people living along the borders.

He laid emphasis on the intelligence dominance over border developments.

Following an official request by Iraq's federal government on Iran's cooperation on establishing the authority of the government in border terminals of the two countries, a meeting by Iranian armed forces commanders was held, Armed Forces spokesman General Masoud Jazayeri earlier told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Emphasizing the importance of Iraq's integrity and the illegal nature of the separation referendum held in Iraqi Kurdistan Region on Monday (September 25), the Iranian commanders agreed on holding joint war games called 'Authority' (Eqtedar) by the two countries' forces along with border regions from Qasr-e Shirin to Parviz Khan in Kermanshah Province, Bashmaq border in Marivan, Kordestan Province, and Tamarchin border in Piranshahr, West Azarbaijan Province.
