D-8 Summit opens in Istanbul attended by Iran
IRNA The 9th Summit of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation opened in Istanbul attended by Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri.


Jahangiri is accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi.

Turkey, taking over the rotating presidency of the group from Pakistan, is to chair D-8 summit.

Jahangiri will address the summit and hold talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today (Oct 20).

He arrived in Ankara on Wednesday evening and was officially welcomed on Thursday by the Turkish Prime Minister Binali Y?ld?r?m.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, also known as Developing-8, is an organization for development co-operation among Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.

The objectives of D-8 are to improve member states' position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living.

D-8 is a global arrangement rather than a regional one, as the composition of its members reflects.

It is a forum with no adverse impact on bilateral and multilateral commitments of the member countries, emanating from their membership to other international or regional organizations.
