Iraqi PM in Tehran to confer with top Iranian officials

October 27, The Iranian Project - Heading a high-ranking delegation, the Iraqi premier arrived in Tehran on Wednesday evening (Oct 25) after visiting Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Al-Abadi was officially welcomed by First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri at Saadabad Cultural and Historical Complex in Tehran on Thursday morning.

While in Tehran, he held separate meetings with VP Jahangiri, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

In a meeting with Iraqs visiting prime minister in Tehran on Thursday, Jahangiri said the two neighbors need to promote banking interaction.

For his part, Iraqi Prime Minister al-Abadi urged efforts to broaden bilateral relations and fulfill the common interests.

Receiving al-Abadi, Ayatollah Khamenei said on Thursday evening that the Iraqis must be extremely careful with the US guile and should never trust it.

"The Americans themselves created Daesh; Now that the terrorist group has been defeated by the Iraqi people and government, they show themselves in line with the big development; and of course, they will use every chance they get to harm Iraq," said Ayatollah Khamenei.

Meanwhile, al-Abadi noted, "We meticulously take care of Iraq's unity, and as we have already told our brothers in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, we will not allow disintegration to threaten Iraq."

Besides, Rouhani in a meeting with al-Abadi voiced Islamic Republic's strong resolve to participate in Iraqs reconstruction process after Daesh was uprooted from the neighboring country.

Al-Abadi, for his part, underscored Iraqi nations resolve to stand steadfastly against all plots aimed at undermining the unity and territorial integrity of the country.

Also during a meeting with the premier, Larijani stated that the resistance of the Iraqi nation against the terrorists showed that Iraq has a power that no aggressor can overcome that country.

The Iraqi prime minister went on to discuss the Kurdistan regions illegal referendum on independence, and said, "Fortunately, there was no international support for the separatists, and the only side which backed the referendum was the Zionist regime.
