An Iranian music ensemble has been selected to take part in the Shashmaqam Music Festival in the Tajkistan capital city of Dushanbeh.
The ensemble, led by the vocalist Vadoud Moazzen will take its program to the festivals stage with the performance of Mehran Ahmad Hazrati, Ahmad Sattari, Yusef Moharramian, Mehran Farshbaf.
The group is slated to compete with other participated ensembles from Afghanistan, China, and Azerbaijan.
The annual festival is held to commemorate Tajikistans National Shahsmaqam Day, on May 12.
Shashmaqam (six modes) is considered as Central Asian musical genre which is popular in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The music is described as a refined sort of music with lyrics derived from Sufi poems about divine love. It is set in one of the classical Persian musical modes, or melodic forms.
This years festival is held at the Sadriddin Aini State Opera and Ballet Theater in Dushanbeh from May 12 to 14, 2013.
