IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale jolted Takht village in Hormuzgan Province, south of Iran.
According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 5:36 hours local time (2:06 GMT Saturday) in an area located at 56.74 degrees longitude and 27.52 degrees latitude.
There is no immediate report on the possible casualties or damage.
Iran sits astride several major faults in the earth's crust and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
