Irans Zarif, UN envoy discuss ways to boost stability in Afghanistan
Tasnim Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the special representative for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Tadamichi Yamamoto, exchanged views about the latest developments in Afghanistan.

Speaking at the meeting in Tehran on Monday, Zarif pointed to Tehran-Kabul cooperation in various political and economic fields and stressed the need to boost it.

He further voiced the Islamic Republic of Irans support for efforts made by Afghanistans National Unity Government to restore stability to the country.

Yamamoto, for his part, briefed Zarif on the current security situation in Afghanistan and efforts to continue peace dialogue in the country.

Back in May, Zarif paid an official visit to Afghanistan and held talks with senior officials of the country on a range of issues, including ways to boost the relations between the two countries.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani traveled to Iran in May 2016 to sign a trilateral agreement between Iran, Afghanistan and India on the establishment of an international transit corridor via the Iranian port city of Chabahar.

While in Tehran, Ghani met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, during which he voiced Kabuls willingness to cement closer regional cooperation with Tehran.
