MNA NIGTC head said Iran supplied a total of 5.4 million cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (began March 21).
Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Transmission Company (NIGTC), Saeid Tavakoli, while noting that Iran deploys a daily average of 30 million cubic meters to Turkey, said we hold an annual contract with the neighboring country according to which a specific volume of gas is delivered.
As such, should domestic consumption rise in certain times of the year like winter, we reduce the export figure, he continued.
The official asserted that the aggregate total volume of gas exports to Turkey had stood at eight billion cubic meters in the previous Iranian year with the figure for the first six months being 5.4 billion cubic meters.
Tavakoli recalled that Turkey had been the first target market for exports of Iranian gas following the Islamic Revolution when gas shipments to Russia came to a halt; Turkey is therefore the most traditional export zone for the countrys gas.
Maintaining that Irans gas is supplied to Turkey through Bazargan border terminal, NIGTC head explained that the countrys gas pipeline grid enjoyed enough stability and flexibility for critical conditions.
