Israeli MoD: Iran has no military presence in Syria



Sputnik - Trilateral relations between Iran, Saudi Arabia and Israel has witnessed several clashes over the recent years and their relations are deteriorating.




TEL AVIV (Sputnik) Iran does not have a military presence inSyria now and Israel's goal is toprevent its appearance inthe country, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Monday.
"There are no [Iranians] inSyria, contrary towhat is being said. Yes, there is a pool ofexperts, advisers and so one there. Iran has not been present inSyria so far and our main goal is toprevent [Iran] frombeing present asa real military force," Lieberman said inan interview withRussian-language Channel 9, an Israel broadcaster, adding that Iran had not managed toestablish its own military bases inSyria.


"Iran wanted toset upits own ports, sea and airports, military bases next toRussia. They have not managed todo that either," Lieberman said.



Iran has been accused byIsrael onnumerous occasions ofdelivering weapons toterrorist organizations and ofattempts touse the Syrian conflict inorder tofurther establish itself inthe region and turn Syria intoan enemy state forIsrael. In particular, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Iran's actions inthe region posed a threat not only tothe Middle Eastern region butto the whole world and pledged torespond tothese actions byall possible means, including the ones based onthe use offorce.Saudi Arabia has long had a difficult relationship withShia Iran buta full-blownpower strugglehas developed betweenthe two inrecent months.

Meanwhile, Iran and Saudi Arabia have clashed recently overLebanonand Tehran has also been accused ofsupporting Houthi rebels inYemen.
