FNA - Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri warned that certain foreign countries are plotting to widen the gap and increase differences in the region.
"It is necessary that the regional states keep vigilant against the plots hatched by the foreigners, specially the trans-regional actors, who want to induce divisions and differences through their interferences," General Baqeri said in a meeting with the commander of Azerbaijan's border guards in Tehran on Sunday.
He also underscored that there are abundant grounds for cooperation between the two countries in the military, defense and security fields, and called for using capacities to establish security and meet mutual interests.
The Azeri commander, for his part, presented a report on measures taken to increase security at the two countries' joint borders.
Iran and Azerbaijan held the first meeting of their joint defense commission in October with the aim of strengthening defense and military ties and cooperation.
During the meeting held in Baku and headed by Iranian deputy defense minister and Azeri Defense Minister Lieutenant General Zakir Hasanov, the two sides discussed ways to prepare a roadmap for the further expansion of military and defense cooperation.
They also underlined the necessity for respecting the regional states' territorial integrity and strengthening good neighborly ties among them.
