Farhadi’s film among top 100 awaited films of 2018

Financial Tribune- Based on a list released by The Playlist, a film and TV news website, ‘Everybody Knows’, the new film by internationally acclaimed Iranian filmmaker, , is ranked 12th among the 100 most anticipated films in the coming year.

The film of the two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker is ranked above many other prominent filmmakers, namely Gary Ross, Steven Spielberg who is one of the most popular directors and producers in film history, David Robert Mitchell, and late American actor and filmmaker Orson Welles.

Orson Wells’ film ‘The Other Side of the Wind’, which is ranked 22nd on the list, is particularly known for its troubled production schedule. The six-year shooting was plagued by difficulties with production, finance and casting, as well as complex legal problems that led to the negative film being impounded and the film was left unfinished for four decades.

In the list, the first eleven places belong to ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ by Barry Jenkins, ‘The Irishman’ by Martin Scorsese, ‘Roma’ by Alfonso Cuarón, ‘Ad Astra’ (Latin phrase meaning to the stars) by James Gray, ‘The Favorite’ by Yorgos Lanthimos, ‘High Life’ by Claire Denis, ‘Isle Of Dogs’ by Wes Anderson, ‘Widows’ by Steve McQueen, ‘Beach Bum’ by Harmony Korine, ‘Black Panther’ by Ryan Coogler, and ‘The Sisters Brothers’ by Jacques Audiard.

‘Everybody Knows’ is a family drama that has Penelope Cruz, Ricardo Darin, Eduard Fernandez, Barbara Lennie, Inma Cuesta and Elvira Mínguez, in addition to Spanish actor Javiar Bardem in the cast. Shooting of the film was completed in early December, yet, there is no word on the release date, The Playlist wrote.

Little is known about the film’s story except that Carolina travels with her family from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to her native village in Spain for a celebration. What was meant to be a short visit is disrupted by unforeseen events that will completely change their lives.
