Sputnik News - The US House of Representatives will hold a vote next Tuesday to express its support for the protesters against the government in Iran, US Congressman and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a press release.
"On Tuesday, the House will vote ona bipartisan resolution tojoin the administration insupporting the people ofIran," the release said onFriday. "The radical regime inTehran denies basic freedoms and crushes opposition withdeadly force while pushing billions ofdollars toterrorist activities abroad."
The resolution will express US support fortheprotestersand it called onthe Trump administration not to "repeat the mistakes ofthe past," the release added.
"This resolution condemns the regimes crackdowns onlegitimate protest, and makes clear that America stands withIranians who want peace, freedom and a better life," the release said.
The United States has abundant means tohold Iran accountable forany violence againstdemonstrators, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said ina press release onThursday.
Some Iranians have taken tothe streets inmajor cities inthe country sinceDecember 28, 2017, toprotest againstunemployment, poverty, rising cost ofliving and policies ofIranian President Hassan Rouhani. At least 20 people have reportedly been killed and 450 have been detained, according topublished reports.
