IRNA � Thousands of people of the holy city of Qom visited the Supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday.


The meeting was held on the occasion of uprising of the people of Qom against the US-protege regime of shah on January 9, 1978.

The protest is considered by many as the beginning of a series of protests that led to the fall of the shah and monarchy in Iran to be replaced by the Islamic Republic on March 11, 1979.
