An Iranian parliament official has criticized Western countries for opposing Irans participation in the upcoming international conference on Syria, saying the event will be inconclusive without the Islamic Republic.
On Sunday, Iran Majlis Director General for International Affairs Hossein Sheikholeslam said, Some countries that support the terrorists in Syria are still in the wrong because any conferences held to solve the crisis in Syria will only bear fruit with Iran.

Sheikholeslam further noted that certain parts of the foreign-backed militants fighting against the Syrian government, including the al-Nusra Front terrorists, will refuse to take part in the Geneva conference.

He added that the refusal of certain Syrian groups to participate in the Geneva 2 conference casts doubt on whether it will be able to end the crisis in Syria.

At a joint press conference in Moscow on May 7, Russia and the United States agreed to hold an international conference on Syria, which will serve as a follow-up to an earlier Geneva meeting, which was held in June 2012. Russia has underlined the need for the participation of the Islamic Republic in the event.

Turmoil has gripped Syria for over two years, and many people, including large numbers of Syrian soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the foreign-sponsored militancy.

Western powers and their regional allies including the Israeli regime, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are partners in supporting the militant groups in Syria.
