President Rouhani, Zarif met with top foreign officials

February 11, The Iran Project - President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held several separate meetings with a number of foreign officials in Tehran on Saturday (Feb. 10).

President Rouhani held talks with Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and foreign ambassadors, heads of foreign representative offices and international organizations in Tehran on the occasion of Islamic Revolution anniversary celebrations.

Talking to Kamilov, President Rouhani described relations between Iran and Uzbekistan as close in terms of culture and history, adding "Tehran welcomes acceleration of development of comprehensive relations with Tashkent."

Activating all capacity and potentials for cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including economy, energy, transit, joint ventures, tourism and the enhancement of the level of banking and monetary exchanges, can be a great step for a leap in the comprehensive development of the relations between Iran and Uzbekistan," he noted.

The Uzbek FM described his country's stance towards Islam as completely in accord with the Islamic Republic of Iran and added "we believe that we can prevent the process of extremism through close cooperation in this field."

Addressing the foreign ambassadors to Tehran and the political attaches of foreign countries in Tehran, President Rouhani said the message of our Revolution was not aggression against other countries but it was independence, no intervention of foreign meddlers in domestic affairs, and fair relations with the world.

In a meantime, Zarif also held talks with Kamilov and Yemen's Ansarullah spokesman Mohammad Abdol Salam in Tehran.

The Iranian and Uzbek ministers discussed regional and international issues and exchanged views on how to develop bilateral relations between the two countries.

Zarif and Kamilov specifically discussed signing an agreement that would include cooperation on economic and trade issues, including energy cooperation (oil, gas and petrochemicals), railway transportation, consular services and tourism.

In a meeting with Abdol Salam, Zarif called for immediate end to war and bombardment of Yemen.

Referring to Iran's four-clause plan to resolve the current dispute and crisis in Yemen, he called for immediate stoppage of war and bombardment in the country which claimed the lives of scores of people.

The Yemeni envoy, for his part, briefed Zarif on the current developments in Yemen mainly the current deplorable status of people.
