Iranian professor took his life while in custody: MP

IRNA It is quite clear for the Iranian Parliament members that Kavous Seyed-Emami, sociology professor at Iran's Imam Sadegh University, committed suicide while in custody, said senior member of Iran's Majlis (parliament).

Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini, rapporteur of the Majlis commission on national security and foreign policy, elaborating on the details of Seyed-Emami's death, confirmed on Tuesday that the held Iranian professor had died after committing suicide.

'The CCTV footage from his time in custody quite clearly shows he is preparing for committing suicide,' Naqavi-Hosseini said.

'The footage shows that Seyed-Emami uses his shirt to make a rope,' he said.

'It further reveals that he even tries to break into pieces the lamp in his cell to possibly use the broken glass as a knife to cut his throat,' he said.

'But he failed to break the lamp,' the Member of Parliament added.

Seyed-Emami tried to make it appear to guards that he was asleep, Naqavi-Hosseini said.

According to the parliamentarian, his family members have also checked the CCTV footage and they have also confirmed he has taken his life.

'Seyed-Emami's brother has also checked the dead body confirming just ligature marks on his neck,' he said.

Seyed-Emami's family has not even asked for the body of the dead to be checked by a forensic team, the MP said.
