Iran-Britain political dialogues to be held in London: Deputy FM

IRNA Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi says that Iran holds periodical political talks with all countries and political talks between Iran and Britain will be hosted by London on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Sunday, he added that he is scheduled to visit London on Wednesday to attend the meeting.

Such negotiations will be held alternatively in Tehran and in London and now it is Londons turn to host the talks, he said.

Araqchi further pointed out that the upcoming one-day dialogues would focus on regional and international developments as well as issues surrounding 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Asked about talks on the Syrian region of Afrin, he said that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed major regional issues including Syria situation and developments unfolding in Afrin during his talks with officials in Munich.

Munich Security Conference not only provided the participants with an opportunity to express their views and hold bilateral meetings, he said.
The JCPOA was also at the center of attention during the meetings held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, he said, referring to his talks with the deputy foreign ministers of Italy, France, Britain and Germany on Yemen situation.

Noting that there is a humanitarian catastrophe in the impoverished country, Araqchi said that attacks by Saudi-led coalition forces on the country have intensified.

Massacre and plights of the Yemenis as well as outbreak of contagious diseases such as cholera are among the challenges faced by the Yemeni people, he said, calling for joint efforts by the international community to establish ceasefire and break the blockade of the country.
