Sputnik There are no contradictions over Turkeys Olive Branch operation in Syria's Afrin between Ankara and Moscow, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday.
"We have no disagreements withRussia overAfrin. InIdlib, a process ofsetting upthe observation posts is underway. At the moment, we have already created eight such posts. A tripartite summit (Russia-Turkey-Iran), similar tothe Sochi one, is planned totake place inIstanbul inthe future. There, we will have an opportunity toassess and discuss all the issues," Erdogan said duringthe press conference, asquoted bythe TRT broadcaster.
Ankara purchases the Russia-made military equipment and arms toensure its security despitethe disagreements withNATOoverthe deliveries, the official added and noted that Greece has acquired Russian arms aswell, butno sanctions overthe decision followed.
The Turkish president again criticized the United States overthe latters failure tofulfill its promises towithdraw the self-defense forces ofthe Syrian Kurds (YPG) fromManbij.
On January 20, Ankara launched operation Olive Branch inAfrin againstKurdish militia inorder to "clear" Turkey's Syrian border ofthe terrorist threat. Turkey considers the Democratic Union Party (PYD), a Kurdish political party innorthern Syria, and YPG tobe linked tothe Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), listed asa terrorist organization byAnkara.
The Syrian government has strongly condemned the operation conducted byTurkey asan assault onthe nation's sovereignty. Russia, inturn, has urged all parties toexercise restraint and called forrespect ofSyria's territorial integrity.
