Iran's achievements in supporting rural women explained at UN

IRNA - An Iranian female MP on Monday briefed the 62th meeting of the UN Commission on the Status of Women on the achievements made and measures taken by the Islamic Republic of Iran to support rural women and girls.


Addressing a round table debate on economic empowerment of rural women, Parvaneh Salahshoori cited training of 12,000 facilitators from among rural women, supply of small credits to 45,000 other women, holding of entrepreneurship and agricultural training courses for 382,000 women and holding of agricultural exhibitions as some of the measures taken by Iran in this regard.

The 62nd meeting of the UN Commission on the Status of Women underway at the UN headquarters in New York from March 12-23.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. A functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it was established by Council resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946.
