Border Guards Commander: Hostage soldier still alive

FNA- Commander of the Iranian Border Guards Brigadier General Qassem Rezayee said the country's border guard who was wounded in a 2017 cross-border attack in Southeastern Iran and was then taken by the terrorists to Pakistan is still alive.

"This is among our serious concerns and we are following the case and we hope to bring the soldier back home and to his family soon but unfortunately, we have not scored success yet," General Rezayee told reporters in the Northern province of Golestan on Monday.

"At present, the soldier is alive and healthy and we hope to bring him back to his family and border guards force as soon as possible," he added.

In relevant remarks last April, Iranian Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Eskandar Momeni revealed that the wounded Iranian border guard in the cross-border attack has been transferred to Pakistan.

"According to our intel, the lost soldier in Mirjaveh terrorist incident has been taken to Pakistan after being wounded by the terrorists," General Momeni said.

He said police had some clues in this regard, adding that his forces would continue efforts to find out the soldier's fate and bring him back to the country.

Nine Iranian border guards were killed and two others injured in clashes near the Iranian town of Mirjaveh in Sistan and Balouchestan province in April 2017. Jeish ul-Adl terrorist group in a statement claimed responsibility for the attack.
