Iran FM: US unilateralism alarming signal for global security

IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said late Wednesday that US insistence on unilateral policies is an alarming signal to the international peace and security and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Talking to reporters upon his arrival in the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, he added that multilateralism is one of the issues NAM has always underlined.

Warning about US unilateral policies, he said that presently Washington is pursuing such policies more persistently.

Noting that NAM has always favored multilateralism, Zarif said that US insistence on unilateralism is one of the issues which should be discussed during the NAMs foreign ministerial meeting to be held for the next two days.

Referring to recent crisis in Palestine, he added that Zionist regimes measures against peaceful demonstration in Gaza has so far killed 20 Palestinians, an issue which should be pursued during NAM meeting.

The US move to recognize holy Quds as the capital of the Zionist regime is another topic to be dealt with by NAM, he said, noting that denuclearization is another issue the bloc has always focused on.

This is while the Trump administration by allocating a huge amount of money for renovation of nuclear weapons would destroy all achievements (made in the field of disarmament) over the past years, the top diplomat said.

As to the achievements of trilateral meeting of the Iranian, Russian and Turkish presidents in Ankara, he hailed the trios common stance on the Syria sovereignty, saying that the event was an excellent opportunity for the three leaders to discuss the countrys developments.

Iran, Russia and Turkey are pursuing peaceful means to solve Syrian crisis and they are all unanimous on the countrys territorial integrity, independence and national sovereignty, he said.

Zarif further noted that policies seeking to create tribal discord in Syria have been rejected by the three countries.

Zarif arrived in Baku on Wednesday night to take part in NAM meeting to be attended by 800 representatives from 120 member states and 17 observe states.
