US, EU states agree on conditions to preserve Iranian nuclear deal - Reports



Sputnik - The United States, Germany, France and the United Kingdom have agreed on the conditions under which Washington will remain committed to the Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), media reported Tuesday.




Under the new agreements, the European and US sides decided that they needed tothreaten Iran withnew sanctions because ofits missile tests and regional policy, butthe JCPOA itself would not be altered, according tothe Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.

The media also noted citing diplomatic sources that the negotiations had not finished yet.

Trump has repeatedly criticized the JCPOA negotiated bythe previous US President Barack Obama's administration asbeing perhaps the worst deal inUS history and threatened towithdraw Washington fromthe deal if it was not amended.

On July 14, 2015, the European Union, Iran and the P5+1 group ofcountries Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany signed the JCPOA toensure the peaceful nature ofIrans nuclear program. Under this agreement, Iran pledged tonot seek todevelop or acquire nuclear weapons inexchange forthe lifting ofsanctions imposed againstIran.
