Ottawa supports Iran deal: Canadian PM

IRNA Canada stays with the countries supporting the Iran Deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and feels unhappy with US' withdrawal from the deal, said the Canadian prime minister, according to Canada's media.

'We will respect the capacity of individual countries to make their decisions about foreign policy,' BBC quoted Justin Trudeau as saying on Wednesday.

Saying that he regrets US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the United States from the 2015 agreement which has been negotiated by the world's major powers, Trudeau said.

He also added that Canada make decisions around foreign policy 'in Ottawa, not in Washington, not elsewhere.'

Saying that the Iran nuclear deal wasn't perfect, but 'it helped prevent that country from developing a nuclear weapon'.

This is while Iran has several times announced that it has not been and will not be after making nuclear bombs; even Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued a fatwa against making and using nuclear weaponry.

Trudeau also stressed that Canada is firmly aligned with most countries, including other NATO allies in supporting the deal.

'We know that standing firmly in support of the JPCOA with our NATO allies and others is extremely important.'

The prime minister said that he expects Iran decision would be a topic of discussion when he hosts Trump and their G7 counterparts in Quebec at their annual summit next month, CBC wrote.

The US presdint announced that his country won't stay in the deal it had signed in January 2015 with Iran and 5 other world powers, which was also confirmed by the UN Security Council.

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini that EU opposed Trump's decision to pull out if the deal and added that EU will stay with Iran and other signatories of the deal.

Leaders of England, Germany and France separately issued statements and announced that they will stay in the deal.

French President Immanuel Macron urged Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to stay in JCPOA on a phone call on Wednesday.
