Iran, Bolivia discuss defense ties
Tasnim Highest-ranking military commanders of Iran and Bolivia in a meeting in Tehran weighed plans for enhanced defense cooperation between the two countries.


Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Bolivia Admiral Yamil Octavio Borda Sosa, who arrived in Tehran on Friday, met with Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri Saturday morning.

The two top generals discussed ways to broaden the defense ties and mutual cooperation between Tehran and La Paz.

Speaking at a joint press conference after the meeting, the Iranian general hailed the Bolivian nation for standing against the US and praised the South American countrysarmed forces for their contributions to Boliviasindependence.

He also pointed to the Bolivian Armys willingness for technological cooperation with Iran, partnership in the arms industry, training courses, and house construction formilitary forces, sayingIran has welcomed interaction in all of those areas.

For his part, the Bolivian commander said he bringsa message of genuine friendship from the Latin American nation, hoping that his trip would result in certain defense agreements with Iran.

During his stay in Tehran, Admiral Borda Sosa is also planned to meetIrans Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami and Police Commander Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari.

In November 2015, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced the countrys readiness to share its experiences with Bolivia in all spheres.

Iran and Bolivia are both members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and share a history of anti-imperialist struggle for freedom.
