EAEU, Iran sign provisional deal to create free trade zone



Sputnik - The EAEU and Iran have signed a temporary agreement to establish a free trade zone during an economic forum in Astana.




Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) signed a provisional pact onThursday tocreate a free trade zone, the chair ofthe board ofthe EAEU's economic commission, said.
"The temporaryagreementstipulates an effective dispute settlement mechanism, including arbitration It also creates a joint committee ofhigh-ranking officials and establishes a business dialogue," Tigran Sargsyan said ata ceremony inAstana, Kazakhstan.


The newly-signed provisional agreement ona free trade zone betweenthe Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran will provide new opportunities forArmenia tostep uptrade withthe neighboring country and develop new production capacities, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan said Thursday.

"Convinced that the agreement will open upnew opportunities forArmenian goods toexpand intothe Iranian market, and also create favorable conditions fordeveloping new production capacities inArmenia," Avinyan wrote onFacebook.

The official noted that the agreement had been signed followinglengthy and difficult talks, stressing a considerable role ofthe Armenian side duringthe entire negotiation process.

The arrangement will last forthree years toallow fora full-fledged deal ona free trade zone.

"Our negotiators have already set a long-haul objective forthe next three years toagree [to] a full-fledged accord ona free trade zone," Sargsyan announced.

It is the first step instreamlining trade betweenthe Islamic republic and the five-nation bloc, which includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
