IRNA - German Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman Thomas Schneider said Sunday that the European Union was seeking a mechanism to preserve and strengthen the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
In a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Muscat Hojatoleslam Mohammad Reza Nouri Shahroudi, Schneider said Germany has launched extensive efforts within the EU and in close cooperation with Iran to preserve the deal officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Referring to US President Donald Trump's decision to unilaterally withdraw his country from the JCPOA, he said Berlin was concerned about lack of commitment on the part of certain countries to international pacts and agreements.
For his part, the Iranian envoy referred to reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency verifying Iran's commitment to its obligation under the deal, saying Tehran will not accept any change in the JCPOA.
The meeting was held at the Iranian embassy in Muscat with an aim of reviewing Iran-Germany cooperation following the US exit from the Iran Deal.
Among the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, the Sultanate of Oman follows an independent policies on the regional issues particularly on cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The country made great efforts for the start of negotiations between Iran and Western countries to patch up their differences over Tehran's nuclear program.
In an unilateral measure on May 8, Trump announced his country's withdrawal from the JCPOA which drew harsh criticism from various countries including the European Union.
