May 30, The Iran Project- UN Acting Special Coordinator for Lebanon Pernille Dahler Kardel arrived in Tehran on Saturday (May 26) to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on the latest regional developments, Lebanon in particular.
During her visit to Tehran, Kardel held talks with top Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Javad Zarif as well as Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Iranian parliament speaker's special adviser on international affairs.
A representative of the office of Kardel said that the talks came as part of regular regional consultations focused on the significance of preserving Lebanons stability, security and sovereignty, and shielding the country from regional conflicts.
During the meeting, Zarif and Kardel discussed Irans determination for respecting Lebanese peoples demands.
The meeting between Zarif and the UN diplomat came a day after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Lebanon on the anniversary of the liberation of its southern regions from Israeli occupation back in 2000.
In his congratulatory message, President Rouhani said Lebanon stands at the forefront of the fight against the Israeli regimes extremism, expressing Irans strong support for the establishment of stability and peace in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Kardel told the Amir-Abdollahian that her mission in Lebanon is to help to establish and maintain the countrys stability.
She also emphasized the significance of keeping Lebanon out of any regional crisis, saying that the regions countries should collaborate to achieve it.
For his part, Amir-Abdollahian expressed relief over the success of the general elections in Lebanon.
Luckily and through the wisdom of Lebanese officials, we are witnessing a phase of calm, stability and agreement among the political movements in the country, he said.
