I loved seeing all the free women of Iran in Russia watching the football. They were free and they were happy. Beautiful sight.

Notably, women were not allowed toattend the live broadcast ofthe previous match againstMorocco, which took place onJune 15; instead, female fans had togo tothe cinema tosee it. In wake ofthe national teams triumph, fans took tothe streets tocelebrate, which essentially propelled the city administration toallow women towatch the subsequent match atthe stadium.

On June 20, Spain defeated Iran 1:0 inKazan, withSpains forward Diego Costa netting the ball and thereby gaining the title ofthe man ofthe match.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Finals kicked offon June 14 and will continue all the way toJuly 15, withmatches being played across11 Russian cities, fromRussias westernmost city ofKaliningrad toSochi inthe countrys south.

Iranian women were last allowed tocheer instadiums alongsidemen beforethe Iranian Revolution of1978-1979, which saw the overthrow ofthe 2,500-year-old Persian monarchy, deposing Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi.
