Quake jolts NW Iran

IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale shook Qatur city in northwestern Province of West Azarbaijan on Saturday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 8:20 hours local time (3:50 GMT) in an area located at 38.06 degrees latitude and 44.39 degrees longitude and at the depth of 10 km underground.

No report on possible damage to life or properties has been released yet.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
