Sputnik - US President Donald Trumps request for Saudi Arabia to step up its oil output to 2 million barrels per day to offset the rising oil prices may be seen as a call for the kingdom to withdraw from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its agreements, Irans OPEC governor Hossein Kazempour Ardebili said Saturday.
Putting aside the fact that Saudi Arabia has no such capacity tobolster its crude output, this demand could be inferred asan order forthe kingdom towalk outof OPEC, Ardebili said, asquoted bythe Shana news agency.
Earlier inthe day, Trump wrote onTwitter that he had spoken tothe Saudi king aboutthe need toincrease Saudi Arabia's daily oil production to2 million barrels due tothe unstable situation inIran and Venezuela, stressing that King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud agreed withthe proposal.
Meanwhile, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) did not mention any agreements regarding an increase indaily oil output while reporting aboutthe telephone conversation betweenTrump and King Salman.
Last week, OPEC countries and other major oil producers that participate inthe 2016 Vienna cut deal agreed duringa meeting inthe Austrian capital toincrease production to1 million barrels per day, that is the volume ofthe countries' over-compliance withthe agreement.
OPEC countries and other major oil producers initially reached an agreement atthe end of2016 toreduce oil output by1.8 million barrels per day compared toOctober 2016. The deal, aimed atboosting oil prices, was prolonged twice, withthe last extension set tolast untilthe end of2018.
