MNA The Chief of Sistan and Balouchestan province announced that the main suspect in the case of the serial rapes in Iranshahr County of the province was arrested.
The Police Chief of Sistan and Balouchestan province in southeastern Iran, Brigadier General Mohammad Ghanbari announced that the serial rapist who had committed several cases of sexual assault in Iranshahr County of the province was arrested.
Previously an accomplice of the criminal had been arrested but the main suspect was still not caught.
Ghanbari added that the arrest was successful thanks to the round-the-clock and extensive efforts and comprehensive intelligence work of police.
The case of serial rapes in Iranshahr County sparked anger among local people and the whole nation after a regional cleric broke the news at a public event in last month.
After the news of some moral insecurity events in Iranshahr was spread in mid-June, Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli issued a decree urging the governor general of the province to follow up the case and brief people of details.
A day before interior ministers order, the Imam of a Sunni mosque decried insecurity and referred to a number of families who had told him that their daughters were kidnaped and raped in the county.
According to attorney general of the province, so far 3 families have filed for rape in the courts of the province and out of the three complainants just one has agreed to be examined by forensic gynecologists.
