IRNA - Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has emphasized the need to further enhance military to military cooperation between armed forces of Iran and Pakistan, a military statement said on Monday.

Pakistan Army's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement said that General Bajwa made the remarks during a meeting with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Iranian Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces who called on him along with a high level delegation at Pakistan Army Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

�During the meeting matters of mutual interest, regional security, defense cooperation and Pak-Iran border management were discussed,� it said.

It also said COAS emphasized the need to further enhance military to military cooperation between the two Armed Forces. �COAS said that enhanced Pakistan-Iran cooperation will have positive impact on peace and security in the region,� said the statement.

Major General Mohammad Bagheri, on the occasion pledged to keep working for better relations between the two brotherly countries and also condemned recent terrorists� attacks in Pakistan.

Iranian Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces arrived in Pakistani capital, Islamabad on Sunday on an official three-day visit for talks with the country�s officials.

The visit is being carried out on the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Major General Baqeri is scheduled to meet Pakistan�s civilian and military leadership during the visit.

Bilateral ties, defense cooperation, border management, war against terrorism, regional and international developments would come under discussions during the meetings.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Iran in November last year and met with Iranian leaders in a bid to further enhance coordination between the two countries especially in defense sector.
