Light tremor jolts Western Iran

IRNA A 4.4-magnitude earthquake Tuesday jolted a region to the west of Iran that was hit earlier this week by another relatively strong quake.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake jolted Tazeh Abad, in western Kermanshah at 13:16 local time, just two days after a magnitude 5.9 earthquake rocked the region.

The epicenter was registered at the depth of 10 km, 34.6 degrees latitude and 46.3 degrees longitude.

The quake was also felt in the entire area of Uramanat and some parts of the provincial capital city of Kermanshah.

Another light quake shook parts of Tazeh Abad on Sunday night.

Sunday's magnitude 5.9 earthquake damaged 951 buildings in towns and villages in western Kermanshah, and injured 287 people.

Iran is located on a number of major geological fault lines and has been shaken by strong quakes in the past decades.
