Light quake jolts northern Iran

IRNA - A 4.2-magnitude quake rocked parts of Aliabad-e Katul, Golestan Province on Saturday.


According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 3:30 hours local time (23:00 GMT) in an area located at 36.73 degrees latitude and 54. 94 degrees longitude and in the depth of 10 km underground.

No report on possible damage to life or properties has been released yet.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
