SHANA - Plans are under way to install a new petroleum oil jetty which will be able to berth vessels with up to 50,000 tons of storage capacity.
According to the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC), director of the company's planning Shahram Rezaei said the jetty is being installed in line with the development project of Chabahar Port Oil Inventory.
So far two storage tanks have been built at the port, he said.
He said the jetty is being built to address the existing difficulties in loading petroleum products and oil in Chabahar Port.
Besides the jetty, construction of a multi-functional jetty at the port and the respective pipelines is on the agenda, he added.
Chabahar is one of Iran's strategic and important ports and is on the transit route between Afghanistan and some of the Central Asian states as well as the CIS countries. It is closest to the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf, which plays a very important role in the region's trade and economy.
