FM Zarif says Iran seeks enhanced ties with Pakistan
IRNA -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif says that aim of his Islamabad visit is to promote bilateral ties and explore ways and means to enhance trade ties with new government of Pakistan.

He made the remarks during an interview with IRNA upon arrival in Islamabad for a two-day official visit.

This would be the first visit by any foreign dignitary after the formation of the new government in Pakistan. It is worth mentioning that it is Zarifs eighth visit to Pakistan since he became Iranian foreign minister in 2013.

Zarif opined that relations between Iran and Pakistan are historic and friendly while people of the two countries are very close to each other.

He added that the visit will provide both countries with an opportunity to explore ways to expand trade.

Zarif said that during his visit constructive discussions would be held on bilateral ties, regional situation, international developments, economic ties and resumption of banking channel between Iran and Pakistan.

He expressed the hope that his meetings would prove to be fruitful.

During his two-day stay in Pakistan, Zarif is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan, his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Finance Minister Asad Umar.
