Iran Daily Iranian actor Amir-Ali Danaei won the Best Actor award at the 58th Asia-Pacific Film Festival (APFF) in Taiwan for his role in Appendix.
The Best Actress award was won by Teresa Mo of Hong Kong for her role in Tomorrow Is another Day.
A brief synopsis of the Iranian Appendix reads: Due to severe abdominal pain, Zari and her husband, Reza, go to a hospital. However, Zaris insurance ID has expired and they are forced to borrow her friend Leila Attarods ID. Eventually, she undergoes appendectomy using Leilas ID and the staff at the hospital suspect something is wrong. Due to this, they are forced to switch roles to convince the hospital staff that the ID belongs to Zari. However, many unfortunate events take place in the process
APFF is an annual film festival hosted by the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific.
The festival is held in a different country each year.
Midi Zha, Myanmar-born Taiwanese director of the drama film The Road to Mandalay, won the award for Best Director at the event.
Zhao, who first attracted attention with his drama film Ice Poison in 2014, received the Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year at the Golden Horse Awards in 2016.
The Road to Mandalay, which describes two immigrants from Myanmar fleeing their countrys civil war in search of a new life in Thailand, first premiered at the 73rd Venice Film Festival in 2016.
At Saturdays award ceremony, Garth Davis Australian drama film Lion took home the festivals biggest prize, the Best Feature Film.
