Masterminds of Ahvaz terrorist attack to be crushed: Commander

IRNA Iran's Armed Forces will strongly confront the terrorist masterminds of Ahvaz attack that killed 25 people, including children, a senior general vowed on Monday.

The terrorist attack targeted Saturday a military parade and the civilian bystanders in the southwestern city of Ahvaz. Some 60 people were shot and injured by the terrorists.

A terrorist group, calling itself Al-Ahwaziyeh, has claimed the responsibility of the attack.

'They are the same people who were followers of Saddam at the onset of the war, and they are pursuing the same goal,' Iran's Deputy Commander of Army Ground Forces Brigadier General Nowzar Nemati told reporters at an Army parade on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the Iraq-Iran war.

The eight-year war, known as the Sacred Defense in Iran, began in 1980 by Iraq's invasion under the former Iraqi dictator Saddam.

Those who plotted the indiscriminate terrorist attack in Ahvaz, are doomed to a fate not better than that of Saddam and his followers, the commander said, adding that they will be given a crushing response in the future.

He also noted that it was too early to comment on their alleged affiliation to Western intelligence services.

The issue is being investigated and the results will be released by respective officials, he said.
