Iran fully committed to JCPOA: Fmr EU foreign policy chief

IRNA Former European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said that Iran has complied with all of its commitments under the JCPOA, which rarely occurs in agreements.

Ashton made the remarks in an interview with the Director-General of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) Karin von Hippel, saying that Irans full compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA), also known as Iran nuclear deal, is important because it does not happen in most of the agreements.

She referred to the US exit from the JCPOA adding that she was worried not only about the unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA, but also about the other diplomatic affairs and joint collaborations in the future.

Ashton referred to her diaries of the JCPOA negotiations and said, one of the big challenges of the talks was to harmonize the notions of the 5+1 countries in order to build trust between the parties.

She added another issue that we faced during the negotiations was the disputes between the parties apart from the JCPOA. For example, the EU imposed sanctions on Russia due to Ukraine dispute, but the negotiations on the JCPOA continued normally.

Elsewhere in her remarks, Ashton said that she hoped that the JCPOA talks would be a role model for other international agreements, but the United Nations Security Council permanent members have not taken any measures after the JCPOA.
