IRNA - Deputy chief of political, security and social affairs in Iran's western province of Kurdistan said one border guard has been killed following clashes between illegal border crossers and border forces in the city of Baneh.
Hossein Khosh Eqbal said on Tuesday evening the clash broke out during efforts of some individuals along the border to enter the country illegally.
'During the conflict, a border guard and a border crosser were injured and taken to a hospital,' he added.
The guard, however, succumbed to injuries, the deputy chief said.
Khosh Iqbal said the illegal border crossers took advantage of the darkness and escaped.
The region is now in control of the military and security forces and efforts to identify the individuals are underway, he stressed.
Baneh is located 270 kilometers northwest of Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdestan province and it shares 84 kilometers border with Iraq and its Kurdistan region.
