Embassy: Georgia's deportation of Iranian nationals under investigation

FNA - Iran's mission in Tbilisi in a statement announced that following the unusual deportation of a number of Iranian nationals across different borders of Georgia, the country's embassy has taken the necessary measures through diplomatic channels.

The Iranian embassy's statement came after on December 2 it confirmed reports about the deportation or entry ban of dozens of Iranian citizens from Georgia.

The embassy said that it is pursuing the issue with Georgian authorities and it is asking for clarification of immigration laws and regulations as well as satisfactory explanation for the deportations.

The statement of Iran's embassy in Tbilisi said "based on its duty in protecting Iranian nationals, the embassy is pursuing the issue through diplomatic means."

Georgia is one of the countries in Irans vicinity that has visa free travel for Iranians who can stay up to 45 days in that country. In recent years many Iranian citizens have resided and invested in this country.
