S. Arabia to pay blood money of Iran pilgrims

IRNA The check issued to award compensation to the family members of those Iranian pilgrims killed in Mecca in 2015 has been delivered to Saudi representative in the United Nations and will soon be given to Iran, said the head of Iran's Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization on Monday.

Mecca and Medina, two of the three holiest Islamic sites, host roughly two million worshipers each year. In 2015, thanks to Saudi mismanagement more than 7,000 people were killed or went missing; 464 Iranians were killed in the incident, which was the biggest number of casualties among countries that had sent pilgrims to Hajj.

'Through DNA tests, almost all of the bodies have been identified; 2 of them need more investigation and for three of them, we are waiting for the Saudis' response,' said Ali-Reza Rashidian in his press conference, adding that he doesnt know the amount of the money to be paid.

Rashidian said that Iran has demanded the Saudi officials to resperct Iranian pilgrims, and as long as they dont accept that Iran will not send any pilgrims on Umrah (religiously recommended pilgrimage of Mecca that can be done during the year).
