Irans gas production in South Pars field refinery up by 20%

Tasnim The volume of gas production from the South Pars gas fields sixth refinery in southern Iran has increased by 20 percent, the head of the refinery said.

Speaking to reporters in the southwestern port city of Asalouyeh on Saturday, Ahmad Valipour said the sixth refinery has taken major and effective measures to supply the gas needed in the country, especially in winter.

The measures have led to an overall increase of 20% in gas production and injection into the national network compared to the first half of this year (which began on March 21, 2018), he noted.

The official went on to say that the total gas production in the refinery has reached approximately 9 million cubic meters per day.

According to Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, Iran is on pace to boost gas production to 1 billion cubic meters a day by March 2019, roughly the same time that all South Pars phases are planned to be up and running.

The gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar.

It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers belongs to Iran.

It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.
