10-Day Celebrations of 1979 Revolutions victory anniv. started in Iran

February 7, The Iran Project - From past (Jan. 31) Thursday, Iranians have been starting the 10-Day Fajr (Dawn) ceremonies to commemorate the 40th anniversary of a revolution that founded the Islamic Republic andoverthrew the monarchy of the US-backed Pahlavi regime in Iran on February 11, 1979.

Every year Iranians mark the anniversary of theIslamic Revolution from February 1 to 11, known as the Ten-Day Fajr ceremonies. On February 1, 1979, Imam Khomeini returned home aftera 15-year exile in Paris.

On February 11 each year, Iranian people took to the streets in their millions to commemorate the great victory of their Islamic Revolution.

During the past days, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani along with his cabinet members and other topIranian officials separately attended the mausoleum of Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran wherethey paid tribute to the late Imam Khomeini.

Also on the occasion of the Revolution's victory,Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei agreed to pardon or ease the sentences of a large group of those sentenced by the public and revolutionary courts.

President Hassan Rouhani called on all Iranians to have a massive turnout in the demonstrations on Feb. 11, saying "the great people of Iran are the main owners of the Islamic Revolution and February 11 is the day of Iran and all Iranians."

"In 1979 and days before the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the entire Iranian nation, with the exclusion of the heinous royal family, took to the stage and led the revolution to victory with their presence and self-sacrifice, as they have been protecting it well in the past 40 years," he continued.

Rouhani also attached particular importance to this years 10-day celebrations of the Islamic Revolution as it is passing its 40th anniversary.

Rouhani statedthat the US economic war on Iran will fail just as its other wars against the Islamic Republic have failed in the political, legal, regional and international domains.
