Iran holds important position in Pakistans foreign policy: Pak FM

IRNA - Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi says Islamic Republic of Iran holds an important position in Pakistans foreign policy and the relations between the two friendly states would be strengthened in times to come.

The minister expressing his views in Geo TV channel program 'Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath', said Pakistan always desires enhanced ties with Iran.

I had a detailed discussion with my Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif and he did not use any harsh tone towards Pakistan, he said.

The minister said Iranians are concerned about the recovery of their people which are still in the custody of terrorists.

Pakistani security forces have already recovered five of the 12 Iranian border guards who were abducted by militants, said Qureshi. He added that Pakistan is in touch with Iran over the issue and we have also shared some details in this regards.

Pakistani foreign minister expressing his views said our ties with Iran are based on mutual trust.

We strongly condemn recent terror attack on Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) in southeastern Iran, said the official.

He added that Pakistan would cooperate with Iran to address the Iranian concerns. He was confident that both Iran and Pakistan would resolve the issue through dialogue.

Mehmood Qureshi said Pakistans ties with Saudi Arabia are not at the cost of our ties with Iran. Iran holds a very important position in Pakistans foreign policy, stated the minister.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry had summoned Pakistan's ambassador to Iran Riffat Masood over the recent terrorist attack.

A suicide attack on a bus carrying the Islamic Republic Guard Corps (IRGC) personnel martyred 27 and wounded 13 in southeastern Iran on February 12. A terrorist group called Jaish al-Adl, affiliated to Al-Qaida, claimed responsibility for the incident.

Pakistan media have also reported that a Pakistani delegation would now travel to Tehran to discuss Iranian concerns over the terror attack.
