Senior cleric hails Rouhanis Iraq visit as proof of Iran's power

IRNA Chairman of the Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati hailed the current visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Iraq as a token of Iran's power in region.

The Ayatollah made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking at the fifth round of the Assemblys sixth meeting started this morning in Tehran.

He said unlike the US President Donald Trump who made a secret visit to Iraq in spite of the extensive US army presence there, President Rouhani visited the friendly neighbor in broad daylight.

Iranian president at the head of a high-raking delegation arrived in Iraq on March 11 for a three-day official visit.

Jannati said Rouhanis presence in Iraq flaunted Irans power.

Pointing to the sessions topics for discussion which include the Supreme Leaders roadmap for the second phase of the 1979 Islamic Revolution and the peoples living conditions, Jannati said though enemies keep creating economic problems for the Iranian nation, they will not succeed in carrying out their plots.

Elsewhere in his speech, Jannati talked of the Supreme Leaders move to award the Order of Zolfaqar to Commander of Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Qasem Soleimani, and said General Soleimani has done many valuable services to Islam, people and system.

General Soleimani is a perfect example for all military officials, Jannati said.

Also about the recent visit of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Iran, Jannati said such a visit conveyed an important message to the world that Damascus is Tehrans best friend.

The Assembly of Experts is an influential body in charge of designating and dismissing the Supreme Leader. It has 88 members and holds two meetings annually.
