UN coordinator says keen to find best way to help Iran flood-hit

IRNA - UN Resident Coordinator and Representative of Secretary General in Iran hailed Iranians' hospitality, and said the UN is keen to find the best way to help flood-stricken people in Iran.

'I want to appreciate the warm welcome the UN Team & I have received upon our arrival in #Lorestan province. I am keen to learn more about the situation in the province and the best way to help. Stay tuned,' Ugochi Daniels wrote in her Twitter account on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the United Nations office in Tehran in a message said 'Our third #UN team has arrived in #Ilam province to meet with local authorities and community to discuss #Iranfloods'.

Earlier, Daniels said 'the #UN is strongly committed to supporting the Government and the people of #Iran at this critical time'.

'So far, the #UN has made available 1.4 million USD for the ongoing immediate #flood response with emergency medical supplies, water, sanitation, hygiene, health and shelter,' she added.

Daniels went on to say that 'in spite of the challenges, the #UN has been able to deliver appropriate and timely support, particularly for the procurement and delivery of necessary items to the country'.

Several regional countries, such as Turkey, Russia and Kuwait as well as a few European states have sent in in-kind assistance to be received by the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) in the flood-hit regions.

Some 70 people have been killed as a result of the deadly floods that have left hundreds of thousands homeless.
